October Fun, Fall leaves, and Football

The announcer cries out, "Are you ready for some football?" The fans go wild and the game begins. Well, the nip in the air would also ask us if we card maker are ready for some fall card making themes. " Are you ready to make some Fall themed cards?"

Put away the pastel paper, we are in the midst of some beautiful jewel tone colors, the reds, burnt oranges and golds. The picture is taken close by our home of Brown Co. state park, it's a lovely place to go for inspiration. Look for the pumpkin patches and grab a handful of paper, a few stamps and wah-la we have a fall theme card.
I love the arrangement of this card with a diagonal front. Some papers have a right side design or a topside to their design, you want to make sure your print paper looks good on the pattern design once you've cut the diagonal. Turning your paper once our twice to see if the position of the design will make a difference or which backgrounds work the best. Of course you can always use a solid one for one half such as they did in this card design and you will be safe.
This snapshot brings to mind other themes for our cards in the fall. Thanking a teacher for her thoughtfulness on the last field trip to an apple orchard is only one occasion. Think of the lovely reds, browns, blue gray, and cream colors that are in nature this time of year.
What about this as a thank you card with an apple pie that you bought. Wrap it in clear plastic wrap gathering it at the top and tie with a ribbon, baker twine or ect. and add a hand made card. The homemade touch is still there. It is just transfered from the oven to the craft area of the home. Operation Write Home ( OWH) www.operation write home.org is a wonderful way to connect that same focus with our troops by sending a hand made card to someone who is deployed in a foreign unit. When we send our cards to the soldier it is blank inside. The soldier doesn't know who has sent it. It is sent for one reason to encourage the soldier to send some note or thought back home to their loved ones. Encouraging you to make cards on your own or with a group helps the people at OWH to have many, cards to send out to these men and women who serve our country. It is the hand made touch that is important. I know you can send digital cards, greetings by computers and now even new iphones... but it is not the same as recieving a hand made card that someone has made for you. They've taken their time to do this and it says "I care about you and your family."
You can down load this picture for yourself or for the children to color. Just click oover the top of the coloring with your mouse and then copy it or directly print it from the screen. I thought it would be a wonderful way to send someone you love a beautiful fall picture; try it and see if grandma or grandpa might respond to the hand made art of a child. Take one of the colorings to someone who is shut-in and see if they might like it on a window or placed in their room. These ideas don't cost anything but they say so much about the personal touch to the one who is away from us for a time.
As you might tell I love the fall and the colors of the season. I love what this time of the year asks of us, that is, to remember to be grateful. So find all your thank you stamps, your pumpkin, apples, nuts, squirrels and cornicopias Stamps, too. May we all have great inspiration in sharing our gratefulness to the people who are around us everyday and those who are far away but near to our hearts in spirit. This makes our life glow with a different sort vibrance and energy for life. Our Calendar of Events: Oct. 16th- Holiday cards at the Gestner Studio, sign up before Oct 11th- limited seating.
